Watchdog.org, a leader in online journalism, is looking for self-starting freelancers who want to hold government at all levels accountable, know where to look for waste, fraud and abuse, and understand how to find and tell stories the legacy media won’t.

The regional reporters will cover state and local stories that affect citizens in their specific city/state by:

  • Developing a wide circle of sources inside and outside government, think tanks, academia, unions and the business community.
  • Keeping tabs on local government activity, monitoring state government actions that affect the region, and using public records and databases to ferret out waste, fraud and abuse.
  • Monitoring regional legacy media for stories that are under-reported, misreported or not reported, and filling the gaps.

Working with the executive editor, the freelancers are responsible for developing, reporting and writing articles, including longer-term enterprise pieces and news features based on event coverage and breaking news.

This position is to be paid on a per-word basis.
